How to approach the mystery that is the drum pump and all its ramifications? In a sense it can never be approached. For when you get right down to it you (gentle reader) and I as well as everyone else are all the drum and the pump together. In fact you might say that there is only the drum and the pump. Although it seems on a surface level that the drum is separate from the pump and you and I are also separate. It takes effort to see the truth behind this illusion. Or you might say that dropping effort is the key to seeing through the illusion.
SEEING THROUGH THE DRUM PUMP ILLUSION
We may question why this illusion exists in the first place. If we are all one along with the drum and the pump why are we not fully aware of this fact? It has been suggested that we are living in an illusion because we chose to live in the illusion. There was something that we could experience in the illusion that we could not experience without the illusion. There is also the sense that whilst living within the illusion we can never really fully appreciate what it is like to live without the illusion.
It is important to realize that there can be no mistakes in this. The only sin (defined more as mistake or ignorance as opposed to a moral error) is to fall deeper into the illusion. It is almost as if we dove into the deep end of a pool and we are heading back towards the surface. Only once below the surface of the water we forget what it was like above the surface of the water. But in a sense we dove into the water in order to forget.
